Vacancy: Lead Professional Practice Evaluator

We want to learn from you, so we can help educate the nation

Lead Professional Practice Evaluator

The Education Council is a new body with a timeless purpose: to elevate the status of teaching for the benefit of all learners in Aotearoa New Zealand.

We want to hear from principals, teaching professional leaders or senior teachers with current practising certificates who want to work in a ‘nationwide classroom’ to help us do this, either in a permanent role or on a fixed-term secondment.

Our aspiration is supported by a strategic plan that combines four clear areas that we want to work on to make the teaching profession stronger:

·         collective responsibility

·         consistent quality

·         improvement, innovation and change

·         championing the profession

One of the Education Council’s statutory requirements concerns teachers’ competence, including the investigation of cases where a complaint or mandatory report has been made about teachers’ competence. We are looking for someone to lead and manage our Competence Team.

For this role it’s essential that you have a good understanding of the current practicing teacher criteria and recent experience in:

·         providing supervision to teachers

·         assessing teaching performance or competence

·         managing teacher appraisal, performance and development

·         mentoring other teaching practitioners

You also need to possess excellent relationship management skills, as the role involves working effectively with the Senior Manager Teacher Practice and the Lead Lawyer to make sure processes and staff actions are compliant with relevant legislation. You will naturally possess integrity, and will display respect and consideration consistently.

If you have significant experience and skills gained as a professional leader in the early childhood, primary or secondary education sector, we’d like to hear from you.

It’s not every day that an opportunity arises to influence an entire profession, so we’re not expecting ‘everyday’ applications.
