Developing the Code and Standards
The draft Code of Professional Responsibility reflects feedback from our profession about what we expect of ourselves and how we want their profession to be seen by others. These views were gathered from online surveys, focus groups, and the advice of a working group of key sector representatives. You can read the findings from each of the surveys (initial survey, second survey), and from the focus groups.
The draft Standards for the Teaching Profession was also guided by the advice of a working group. A team of writers drafted a broad set of standards and indicators, which revise the Practising Teacher Criteria and better reflect the contemporary teaching context. A Māori Medium Advisory Group assisted in their development in te reo Māori and to ensure they incorporate Māori world views. This group includes representatives from Nga Kura a Iwi, Te Rūnanga Nui, Kura Māori/Kura Mana Māori and Puna Reo/Immersion Centres.
