We are in the process of changing the current interim registration policy in a number of areas, one of these being the policy about who makes decisions on whether a person applying for registration meets the good character and fit to be a teacher requirement for registration. The current policy states that any application being considered for, whether it meets the good character and fit to be a teacher requirement, will be considered “by Council members upon recommendation from the Registration Sub-Committee”.The Education Council intends to change the policy and establish a panel to decide whether a person is of good character and fit to be a teacher. The policy change for this will not come into effect until at least March 2017.
In the meantime, we have established an interim panel. This means we will hold hearings for applications under a new interim panel rather than the Council. People can, however, wait until the new policy is in place.
