Frances Nelson has been convenor for the Centre of Leadership Excellence at the Education Council since January 2017. She is also the Principal of Fairburn School in Otahuhu Auckland. Fairburn School is involved with the Teaching and Learning Research Initiative work on the teaching for equity-project that was developed by senior education faculty staff at Auckland University. Frances has 40 years’ experience as an educator and is an experienced principal having led six different primary schools that vary in decile range in Auckland and Northland. Frances served as an executive member of the NZEI Te Riu Roa for 12 years and then as president for 3 years. She is the Immediate Past President of the Auckland Primary Principals Association, a member of the New Zealand Council for Educational Research board, a trustee on the Springboard Trust and a Justice of the Peace.
